National Organization Leadership Opportunities
2025-2026
National Board
The WIE National Board seeks Board of Directors to support and sustain the mission of the organization in 2025-2026. Terms of office are either one or two years, as listed in position description. All positions terms begin January 1, 2025 followed by re-election if interested. Consecutive terms may be served.
Leadership opportunities include: Vice President, Director of Development, Director of Marketing, and Director of Membership and Engagement. Leadership opportunities provide professional development growth and career-building skills at any stage of one’s career. Prior Board experience is required for Vice President position.
As a National Board member, you will offer insight and guidance on implementing the National Organization’s strategic vision; promote the organization’s mission in the community; engage in sponsorship fundraising initiatives; and cultivate the organization’s growth, creating a diverse community that supports and provides opportunities for women in the environmental profession to thrive personally and professionally.
We welcome involvement from individuals in the environmental industry who are passionate, collaborative, and committed to fulfilling the mission of WIE. Having the time, curiosity, and willingness to engage in a meaningful way with other like-minded professionals in promoting WIE’s mission and vision will support our success.

The deadline to submit nominations and be added to the candidate ballot is December 6, 2024. The election will be held in December and newly elected positions will be announced before the end of the year. Newly elected leaders will be expected to attend January’s National Board meeting (hosted virtually).

Event Promotions
Maintain marketing calendar and follow up on marketing action items with Committee Chairs and other Directors as appropriate
Owner/administrator of WIE marketing platforms including LinkedIn, Mailchimp, and Eventbrite
Lead National Marketing initiatives
Implement Marketing Plan
Qualifications:
Experience in marketing, graphic design, or digital content generation is desirable
This position has a one year term.

Responsibilities include:
Lead efforts on engagement and outreach for all types of WIE involvement including attendees, volunteers, and directors
Be an Ambassador for WIE. Including conference attendance, partnership with aligned non-profits, and data gathering regarding current membership.
Qualifications:
WIE Chapter Board or Committee involvement is desirable.
This position is a one year term.
Chapter Leadership Opportunities
Portland and Puget Sound Chapters

Portland Chapter
The WIE Portland Chapter seeks Board of Directors to support and sustain the mission of the organization in 2025-2026. A term of office is effective January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026, followed by re-election if interested and may serve consecutive terms.
Leadership opportunities include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Vice Treasurer, and Committee Chairs (Professional Development, and Mentoring). Leadership opportunities provide professional development growth and career-building skills at any stage of one’s career. No prior Board experience is required.
As a Board of Director, you will offer insight and guidance on implementing the Chapter’s strategic vision and executing operations of the Board and Committees; promote the organization’s mission in the community; engage in sponsorship fundraising initiatives; and cultivate Chapter growth creating a diverse community that supports and provides opportunities for women in the environmental profession to thrive personally and professionally.

Role of President
The fundamental roles and responsibilities of President shall be:
Strategically lead the Chapter and ensure the Board is operating effectively ensuring alignment with its mission and vision.
Delegate roles and responsibilities to Board of Directors and coordinate efforts accordingly.
Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives, goals, and policies, as needed.
Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization’s programs, including fundraising practices.
Develop and maintain beneficial relationships with financial sponsors and other community stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with non-profit status.
Manage effective external communication, advocating the organization’s mission.
Track action items and other program initiatives.
Plan and facilitate quarterly Board meetings and monthly Executive Committee meetings, including preparation of agendas.
Participate in National WIE Board meetings and present Chapter reports.
Participate in National WIE initiatives, including advancing organizational goals.
Engage in budgetary planning and decision-making pertaining to the goals of the Chapter, collaborating with the Executive Committee.
Review/sign contracts as needed.
Primary bank account owner, coordinating account management with Treasurer.
Support content development in creating engaging Committee events.
Facilitate and support engagement amongst the Board of Directors and Committee members.
Maintain Chapter-related documentation on the WIE administrative shared platform, Google Drive.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is 3 to 6 hours per month.
Role of a Board of Director
Chapter Board Members ensure that WIE delivers relevant and sophisticated professional programming to its growing network of environmental professionals. At a minimum Chapter Boards meet Quarterly. It is expected that Directors attend a minimum of 75% of Board meetings (3 of 4).
As a Board of Director for WIE, each of the Board roles will:
typically a full day event over a weekend; may involve travel)
Communicate with the National Board of Directors during at least four meetings per year.
Commit to serving a two-year term, with an opportunity to renew at the end of the term or transition into other leadership openings.
Recruit and mentor incoming Chapter Board Members.
Promote WIE’s vision to grow membership and create a diverse community that supports and provides opportunities for women in the environmental profession to thrive personally and professionally.
Retain at least one community sponsor and secure funding annually.

Engage in budgetary planning and decision-making pertaining to the goals of the Chapter, collaborating with the Executive Committee.
Facilitate and support engagement amongst the Board of Directors and Committee members.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is 2 to 3 hours per month.

The fundamental roles and responsibilities shall be:

Develop and manage annual budgets and track spending.
Send payments and charitable donation receipts for event expenses.
Prepare quarterly financial reports and present Treasurer Report at Board meetings.
Present quarterly financial reports at quarterly Board meetings.
Prepare annual 501(c)3 state and federal filings for tax purposes.
Review/sign contracts as needed.
Maintain bank account as secondary owner, coordinating account management with President.
Maintain Chapter financial and other related documentation on the WIE administrative shared platform, Google Drive.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is 3 to 6 hours per month.

The Vice Treasurer will serve as a supporting role and provide assistance to the Treasurer. It is anticipated that the Vice Treasurer assumes the Treasurer position as a succession.
The fundamental roles and responsibilities shall be:
Track action items and other program initiatives for Treasurer
Attend quarterly Board meetings
Participate in monthly the National Budget Committee
Engage in budgetary planning and decision-making pertaining to the goals of the Portland Chapter, collaborating with the Treasurer and National Budget Committee
Assist with developing annual budgets and track spending
Assist with sending payments and charitable donation receipts for event expenses
Assist with preparing quarterly financial reports and present quarterly financial reports at quarterly Board meetings if Treasurer is unavailable
Assist with preparing annual 501(c)3 state and federal filings for tax purposes
Review/sign contracts as needed if Treasurer is unavailable
Maintain Chapter financial and other related documentation on the WIE administrative shared platform, Google Drive.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is 2 to 4 hours per month.

The purpose of the Professional Development Committee is to host professional skill-building workshops and discussion panels, with topics ranging from goal setting to public speaking to mid- and late-career development to technical environmental expertise.
The fundamental roles and responsibilities shall be:
Serve as the representative and lead of the Committee in developing and implementing Professional Development events.
Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives, goals, and policies of the Committee.
Facilitate Committee meetings and oversee coordination of event planning and hosting.
Manage effective external communication, advocating the organization’s mission.
Manage the Committee’s activities within the annual budget and report Committee’s finances regularly to the Treasurer.
Attend and participate in quarterly Board meetings.
Participate in National WIE initiatives, including advancing organizational goals.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is to 2 to 4 hours per month.

The purpose of the Networking Committee is to host gatherings for WIE members that build connections in an informal setting, as well as any virtual events as desired designed to reach more members. Networking opportunities are designed to be welcoming and friendly opportunities for college students and professionals at any stage of their career in the environmental field to network with like-minded individuals.
The fundamental roles and responsibilities shall be:
Serve as the representative and lead of the Committee in developing and implementing Networking events.
Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives, goals, and policies of the Committee.
Facilitate Committee meetings and oversee coordination of event planning and hosting.
Manage effective external communication, advocating the organization’s mission.
Manage the Committee’s activities within the annual budget and report Committee’s finances regularly to the Treasurer.
Attend and participate in quarterly Board meetings.
Participate in National WIE initiatives, including advancing organizational goals.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is to 2 to 4 hours per month.

The purpose of the Mentoring Committee is to implement a year-long mentoring program that connects experienced environmental professionals with peers and more junior colleagues. Established Chapters have long-running, successful mentoring programs that are in a maintenance phase rather than a development phase. However, Committee Chairs are encouraged to make adjustments that reflect their personal vision for the program.
The fundamental roles and responsibilities shall be:
Serve as the representative and lead of the Committee in developing and implementing the Mentoring Program.
Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives, goals, and policies of the Committee.
Facilitate Committee meetings and oversee coordination of Committee-related events.
Manage program sustainability through recruiting mentors and mentees and training/advising mentors throughout the program year.
Manage effective external communication, advocating the organization’s mission.
Manage the Committee’s activities within the annual budget and report Committee’s finances regularly to the Treasurer.
Attend and participate in quarterly Board meetings.
Support and collaborate with other Chapter Committees accordingly supporting WIE’s mission.
Participate in National WIE initiatives, including advancing organizational goals.
The anticipated time commitment for this position is to 2 to 4 hours per month.
Puget Sound Chapter
The WIE Puget Sound Chapter seeks Board of Directors to support and sustain the mission of the organization in 2025-2026. A term of office is effective January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026, followed by re-election if interested and may serve consecutive terms.
Leadership opportunities include: Vice President, Secretary, Vice Treasurer, and Committee Chairs (Professional Development, Networking, and Mentoring). Leadership opportunities provide professional development growth and career-building skills at any stage of one’s career. WIE Puget Sound spans Bellingham to Olympia, with events and engagement throughout the region.
As a Board of Director, you will offer insight and guidance on implementing the Chapter’s strategic vision and executing operations of the Board and Committees; promote the organization’s mission in the community; engage in sponsorship fundraising initiatives; and cultivate Chapter growth creating a diverse community that supports and provides opportunities for women in the environmental profession to thrive personally and professionally.
