Empowering Frontline Youth in the Transformative Climate Justice Movement

Empowering Frontline Youth in the Transformative Climate Justice Movement

SF Bay Area WIE Professional Development Event

November 9, 2021  | 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Online Virtual Event

Join us for a virtual presentation with Frontline Catalysts, a first-of-its-kind Climate Justice program for youth in frontline communities.

Frontline Catalysts is a new community-based, nonprofit organization founded by three women, with a mission to empower frontline youth to lead the movement for transformative climate justice. They are doing this through a first-of-its-kind Climate Justice Leadership Development Program grounded in ethnic studies. Students in the program learn about the origins of environmental pollution, its distinct locations in lower-income neighborhoods, and how to advocate and build for a more equitable tomorrow.  Co-founders Xochitl Cortez and Nikki Dones will talk about why ethnic studies is essential to framing climate justice work, and the experience of running their pilot program at United for Success Academy, a Title 1 school in East Oakland.

This is Part 1 of a 2-Part series with Frontline Catalysts. In Spring, Frontline Catalyst youth will join us for Part 2 to present on their research and advocacy.

A special thank you to our featured sponsors for this event: Arcadis, Clear Water Services, Downey Brand, Kennedy Jenks
